Crude differentials are moving fast as Chinese oil import demand rebounds from a decade-low base, pushing benchmark prices higher and squeezing physical premiums across non-Middle East grades.
Congo's Djeno crude, a smaller OPEC producer's flagship grade, is now commanding a $20 per barrel premium over ICE Brent, up from $15 just two weeks earlier, according to traders cited by Bloomberg. Canadian, South American, and other African crudes are seeing similar upward pressure.
This premium widening reflects tightening physical availability as Middle East supply remains disrupted, reinforcing that regional grade spreads — not just headline Brent/WTI levels — are where the real commodity story is unfolding right now.
