US Output Forecast Hike to 14.3M bpd Caps WTI Upside

The EIA lifted its 2027 US crude output forecast to 14.3 million bpd, up from 14.2 million in August, while holding the 2026 estimate steady at 13.8 million bpd, itself a record versus 2025's 13.7 million bpd. First-half 2026 production averaged 13.7 million bpd, a 2% year-on-year gain.

This steady supply growth acts as a structural cap on WTI's upside even as geopolitical premiums build into Brent and knock-on effects lift WTI. Traders positioning in WTI futures now face a tug-of-war: near-term inventory draws and Middle East risk pushing prices up against a backdrop of relentless US shale growth extending through 2027 that could limit sustained breakouts above current resistance.
