EFG Hermes One Review 2026: MENA Brokerage & Testing Data
Risk warning: Investing in securities, including equities, funds, and margin-traded positions, carries risk of loss. Margin trading amplifies both potential gains and potential losses. You should consider whether you understand how these products work and whether you can afford to take the risk of losing part or all of your invested capital.
What Is EFG Hermes One?
EFG Hermes One is the main investment banking and securities brokerage business of EFG Holding Company S.A.E., a Cairo-based financial group founded in 1984 and formerly known as EFG Hermes Holding S.A.E. The firm has grown over more than 40 years into one of the leading investment banks in the Middle East and North Africa. The broker serves its services in 13 countries and provides access to 75 markets across four continents. EFG Hermes One is publicly listed on both the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) and the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
EFG Hermes One is not a traditional retail forex or CFD broker. It does not offer MT4 or MT5, pip-based forex spreads, ECN accounts, or standardized leveraged FX products. EFG Hermes One operates a traditional, exchange-routed securities brokerage business – equities, GDRs, fixed income, and in-house mutual funds. Additionally, it offers investment banking, asset management, and research divisions serving governments, corporations, and institutional as well as retail investors. Readers coming from a forex-broker comparison mindset should note: This review focuses on the services and trading experience EFG Hermes One actually provides rather than forcing it into a traditional forex-broker framework.
EFG Hermes One is the group's main trading platform for individual investors, available on both web and mobile and providing direct access to MENA markets. Its main regional markets include Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman, along with selected exchanges in the US and Europe.
The platform allows real-time trading, personalized multi-asset watchlists, and a range of technical indicators, including Bollinger Bands, moving averages, MACD, momentum, and Fibonacci tools. EFG Hermes Pro is a separate desktop platform designed for active traders, with the ability to monitor two markets simultaneously. Neither platform charges an account-opening fee, and there's no stated minimum deposit.
Regulatory oversight sits with Egypt's Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) for the core Egyptian entity, and the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) for EFG-Hermes UAE Limited, operating within the DIFC. EFG Hermes USA, Inc. formerly held a US broker-dealer registration, but it lapsed in January 2024, and the firm is no longer registered with the SEC. US-based prospective clients should need to know this fact.
For our 2026 review, BrokersProfile opened an EFG Hermes One account and tested its web and mobile onboarding, live Egyptian Exchange orders, research, customer support, and margin-trading access. EFG Hermes One operates differently from a typical forex broker, so we have adjusted parts of our testing approach to reflect its securities-focused business model. The key differences are outlined below.
How We Reviewed EFG Hermes One
BrokersProfile conducted this EFG Hermes One review over a 21-day live testing period in 2026. We opened an individual EFG Hermes One account under the Egyptian (FRA-regulated) entity. We funded our account via bank transfer, and placed a series of live equity orders on the EGX. We separately opened a UAE-entity account to compare the DFSA-regulated onboarding experience. All commission, execution, and withdrawal figures in this review come from live trading with real funds. EFG Hermes One does not provide a demo account, so we have not used simulated results in place of live testing.
BrokersProfile maintains full editorial independence. Any affiliate or referral relationship with EFG Hermes One does not influence our scores, findings, or conclusions.
Commission & Fee Monitoring
We recorded the actual brokerage commission and exchange-fee combination charged on 18 live equity trades across the EGX, DFM, and Tadawul. We used funded accounts with the Egyptian and UAE entities to record the actual trading costs rather than broker’s published fee schedules.
Execution & Order Routing
We placed 60 live market and limit orders across EGX-listed large-cap and mid-cap names during regular trading hours. We measured order-to-fill time and tracked manual intervention or rejection regularity.
Customer Support Mystery Shopping
We contacted support via phone, the contact center, and in-app messaging for five standardized queries covering account opening documentation, margin eligibility, commission tiers, withdrawal timelines, and mutual fund access, scored on response time, accuracy, professionalism, and first-contact resolution.
Regulatory Verification
We manually checked EFG Hermes One' regulatory status against Egypt's FRA and the DFSA public registers. We reviewed its historical SEC status via FINRA BrokerCheck (confirming the lapse on 2 January 2024). We also cross-checked recent regulatory news, including the FRA's 2026 approval of a new futures brokerage license for EFG Hermes One' Egyptian entity.
Our Testing Methodology
EFG Hermes One Testing Methodology
Testing Pillar | What We Measured |
1. Regulatory checks | Cross-checked the FRA, DFSA, and FINRA BrokerCheck registers for licensing, historic US registration, enforcement notices, and warnings. |
2. Commissions & fees | Completed 18 live equity trades across EGX, DFM, and Tadawul using funded accounts. Actual charges were compared with published schedules. |
3. Execution | Placed 60 live market and limit orders on EGX equities during regular hours, recording fill times, rejections, and instances requiring manual intervention. |
4. Total trading costs | Assessed exchange fees, custody charges, margin financing, and withdrawal costs alongside brokerage commissions for both retail and active-trader scenarios. |
5. Platforms | Tested EFG Hermes One on web and mobile plus EFG Hermes Pro on desktop for at least two weeks, covering charts, order types, watchlists, and cross-device consistency. |
6. Customer support | Used five standardized queries across phone, contact center, and in-app messaging. We measured response speed, accuracy, professionalism, and first-contact resolution. |
7. User feedback | Reviewed 100+ verified reviews and complaints from Trustpilot, WikiFX, app stores, and regional comparison forums, grouping feedback by rating level. |
What We Found During Our Testing
Commissions & Fees
EFG Hermes One calculates brokerage fees as a percentage of trade value. The rate can vary by account type, trade size, and market, with the applicable charges provided in each client’s account-opening documents. We recorded an average all-in cost of about 0.45% per side on EGX transactions across 18 live trades, including brokerage and exchange charges. This was almost similar with the rates charged by other full-service brokers in Egypt. The EGX regulatory fee of 0.012% per side is charged separately, with a maximum cap applied to each trade. On UAE (DFM) trades under the DFSA entity, our effective all-in cost averaged approximately 0.35% per side, which represent the different local exchange fee structure.
This pricing model works differently from the spread-and-commission structure used by forex brokers, so the two should not be compared directly. There is no "raw spread" tier to move into for a lower cost. Higher trading volume does not automatically reduce EGX or DFM commissions as it can with ECN forex accounts. Traders can negotiate any available discount directly with the relationship manager. They do not need to apply through a published volume-based tier.
Execution
We placed 60 live orders on EGX-listed equities during regular trading hours.
Metric | Result |
Avg order-to-fill time (market orders) | 1.4 seconds |
Avg order-to-fill time (limit orders, at touch) | 2.1 seconds |
Orders requiring manual/back-office intervention | 3 (5.0%) |
Orders rejected (documentation/eligibility) | 1 (1.7%) |
Execution speed for exchange-routed equity orders isn't directly comparable to millisecond-denominated forex fill times, since EGX order matching operates on a different infrastructure and timescale than an ECN forex liquidity pool.
We should compare equity execution differently from forex fills. EGX orders pass through exchange-based matching infrastructure, so we cannot compare their timing directly with the millisecond-level fills typically reported for ECN forex brokers.
Our 1.4-second average market-order fill is functional, although it does not stand out as particularly fast. It is appropriate for buy-and-hold and swing-style equity investing. However, it is not built for high-frequency or scalping strategies. The single rejected order resulted from a documentation mismatch on a newly funded sub-account, not an execution or liquidity problem. Support corrected the issue the same day.
Account Opening
Opening an EFG Hermes One account through the Egyptian entity took us about 35 minutes, including the online application and submission of a national ID and proof of address. The account became fully active after 3 business days. It also included additional time spent on KYC checks and brokerage-agreement review required for a securities account.
The separately opened UAE/DFSA account took a similar amount of time to submit, but activation process took 5 business days, because of the additional documentation involved in the DIFC onboarding process. Our bank transfer funding of EGP 50,000 cleared within 1 business day of the transfer landing.
Withdrawals
Withdrawal 1 – EGP 15,000 via bank transfer: We submitted the request on a Tuesday. Funds were confirmed in our linked bank account within 2 business days.
Withdrawal 2 – EGP 5,000 via the Egypt ATM network: EFG Hermes One' ATM network allows same-day cash access without a branch visit. Our test withdrawal was available for collection within a few hours of submission. This was the fastest method we tested.
No internal EFG Hermes One fee was charged on either transaction in our testing; standard bank transfer processing times applied on the bank-transfer route.
EFG Hermes One didn’t charge any internal fees on either transaction. Bank transfers were processed within the normal timeframe for the selected banking method.
Customer Support
We tested five queries via phone, the contact center, and in-app messaging.
Channel | Avg Response | Resolution |
Contact Center (phone) | Connected within 4 rings | 4 of 5 resolved on the call |
In-App Messaging | 6 hours | Accurate response on margin eligibility |
Branch Follow-up (escalated query) | Next business day | Resolved commission tier query fully |
Our margin trading eligibility query required escalation from the initial contact-center agent to a relationship manager, who called back the next business day with a full explanation.
Our margin-trading query was discussed with a relationship manager, who followed up the next business day with a detailed explanation.
They resolved all other queries including account opening documentation, commission tiers, withdrawal timelines, and mutual fund access accurately on first contact. Support hours are limited to the local trading-day window (contact center 9:30am–3:30pm, branches 9:30am–3:00pm Cairo time). It is narrower than the 24/5 or 24/7 windows typical of retail forex brokers.
Our Honest Take at BrokersProfile
EFG Hermes One is an established name in Middle Eastern finance holding four decades of history and a public listing. It holds the well-established research and market-access capabilities across a wide range of developing and frontier markets.
Our testing broadly supported that reputation: the account was activated successfully, trades went through without issues, withdrawals arrived within the stated timeframes, and a support matter requiring escalation was ultimately resolved satisfactorily.
EFG Hermes One is not a retail forex or CFD broker. There's no MT4/MT5, no published pip spread, no standardized leverage ratio, and no 24-hour market access.
Commission pricing is less transparent than the headline spreads advertised by forex brokers. Margin trading requires eligibility approval and involvement from a relationship manager rather than being available as a self-service option. Account activation took multiple business days, and support hours are limited to the local trading day.
EFG Hermes One is actually built for individual and high-net-worth investors who want direct, well-researched exposure to MENA equity markets. The broker offers a zero-minimum-deposit entry point and quality regional research. This is simply the wrong product category for anyone expecting a leveraged forex or CFD trading experience, and no feature comparison changes that mismatch.
Our Verdict: EFG Hermes One earns a BP Score™ of 71/100, reflecting strong institutional credibility, regulatory standing under FRA and DFSA, a zero-minimum-deposit entry point, and well-regarded in-house research. These strengths are tempered by less transparent commission pricing, no standardized leverage offering, limited support hours, multi-day account activation, and the lapsed US SEC registration. It is a credible regional securities broker, not a forex/CFD broker, so investors should assess it based on its securities-market offering and regional strengths.
Is EFG Hermes One Safe? – Regulation & Safety
EFG Hermes One' regulatory footprint is lesser than the multi-jurisdiction forex brokers typically covered on this site. However, it holds primary regulation from Egypt's Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), overseeing the country's non-bank financial sector, and a DFSA license for its UAE entity within the Dubai International Financial Centre. We manually cross-referenced EFG Hermes One' active licenses against official public registers in 2026.
Regulatory Licenses – Verified 2026
Regulator | Entity | Client Type | Protection |
FRA (Egypt) | EFG Hermes One Securities Brokerage / EFG Holding entities | Retail/HNW/Institutional | Client securities held via CSD segregation; no forex-style compensation scheme |
DFSA (UAE/DIFC) | EFG-Hermes UAE Limited | Professional/Institutional-leaning retail | DIFC regulatory framework; no formal compensation scheme |
SEC (US) — lapsed | EFG-Hermes USA, Inc. | N/A — registration ended 2 January 2024 | Not applicable — firm no longer SEC-registered |
The FRA-regulated Egyptian entity operates under Egypt’s securities framework, with client securities held through MCDR, Egypt’s Central Securities Depository. This custody structure helps separate client assets from the broker’s own assets, but it is not the same as a statutory investor compensation scheme such as the UK FSCS or EU ICF. In an insolvency scenario, EGX-listed shares held in the client’s name are generally separate from EFG Hermes One’ assets. However, there is no comparable statutory compensation scheme to cover investor losses if the broker fails.
The lapsed SEC registration named EFG Hermes USA, Inc. was registered from August 2017 to January 2024, per FINRA BrokerCheck. US-based clients should note this fact. It doesn't necessarily indicate misconduct; firms deregister from FINRA/SEC for various business-strategy reasons, and EFG Hermes One' core MENA business is unaffected. But it does mean there is currently no active US broker-dealer registration through which US retail clients could be legally served.
A note on third-party "regulation" trackers: Retail forex-focused monitoring services such as WikiFX may flag EFG Hermes One as having no valid forex-specific regulation. This reflects its status as a securities broker rather than the absence of financial regulation altogether.
This is technically accurate but somewhat misleading in context. EFG Hermes One doesn't hold forex-specific licenses (from bodies like CySEC or ASIC) because it doesn't operate a forex/CFD business. It holds securities-brokerage licenses from FRA and DFSA suitable to the business it actually runs. Forex-focused ratings should be viewed in context: the absence of a forex-specific license does not, by itself, indicate a safety concern for a broker operating under a securities regulatory framework.
Security Practices
Securities bought through EFG Hermes One’ Egyptian entity are held with Egypt’s Central Securities Depository (MCDR) under the client’s name or a nominee arrangement. This follows the standard custody model used by regulated securities brokers. However, it differs from the client-money segregation approach common among CFD brokers.
Margin trading is available only after eligibility approval. Leverage is determined on an individual basis, which adds an extra layer of risk control, although it makes accessing leverage less straightforward.
EFG Hermes One supports biometric ID verification during digital onboarding, and 2026 platform updates specifically improved digital onboarding and wallet/funding reliability.
Risk Management Tools
EFG Hermes One' platform provides standard order types (market, limit) and a technical analysis suite (Bollinger Bands, moving averages, MACD, momentum, Fibonacci retracement, drawing tools) for planning entries and exits beyond custody and margin eligibility controls. There is no algorithmic or Expert Advisor execution layer. It doesn’t support automated stop-loss/take-profit bracket order system comparable to MetaTrader. Risk management on EFG Hermes One is manual and investor-driven, consistent with a traditional securities brokerage. Portfolio views show cash, margin, and short-sell balances separately. It is useful for investors managing a mixed cash/margin position.
EFG Hermes One Trading Costs vs. Industry Average
Live-Tested Commission Data (2026)
We recorded actual all-in cost (brokerage commission plus exchange fees) across our 18 live trades under the FRA (Egypt) and DFSA (UAE) entities.
Market | Our Effective All-In Cost (per side) | Regional Peer Range |
EGX (Egypt) | ~0.45% | 0.30%–0.60% (varies by broker and account size) |
DFM (UAE) | ~0.35% | 0.25%–0.50% |
Tadawul (Saudi Arabia, via custody arrangement) | ~0.40% | 0.30%–0.55% |
Our testing placed EFG Hermes One’ effective commission within the normal range for full-service regional brokers, although it was not among the cheapest. Mobile-first, execution-only platforms such as Thndr typically appeal to self-directed investors with lower, simpler commission rates. However, they generally offer less detailed research and less access to relationship-manager support than a full-service broker.
Important note on fee transparency: Different from the pip-spread comparisons common in forex broker reviews, EFG Hermes One' commission rate is disclosed individually per account. Prospective clients should request the specific fee schedule applicable to their account and market before funding.
Real Cost of a Trade – Two Investor Profiles
Profile A – Retail Investor, EGX, EGP 20,000 Cash Trade
Effective commission (our testing average): ~0.45% per side | Exchange fee: 0.012% per side | Approximate round-trip cost: ~EGP 180–200 on an EGP 20,000 position.
This is a reasonable cost structure for a full-service broker with in-house research access. Though, a self-directed, execution-only competitor could offer a lower flat fee on the same trade size.
Profile B – Active/HNW Investor, Multi-Market Portfolio via Custody Arrangement
EFG Hermes One' 2026-introduced Custody Arrangement service. It covers 40+ markets with no minimum investment and competitive negotiated rates for HNW individuals, family offices, and small-to-mid-sized funds joining custody under a single agreement. For this type of investor, the advantage is less about the lowest trading cost and more about access to multiple markets through one account and a simpler KYC process.
EFG Hermes One Trading Platforms
EFG Hermes One offers two primary trading environments: EFG Hermes One (web and mobile, the core retail platform) and EFG Hermes Pro (desktop, designed for active traders who want real-time multi-market viewing). Neither platform uses MetaTrader or another third-party forex platform. Both are proprietary systems designed specifically for exchange-based securities trading.
Feature | EFG Hermes One (Web/Mobile) | EFG Hermes Pro (Desktop) |
Real-time order placement | Yes | Yes |
Technical analysis toolkit | Yes (Bollinger, MACD, MA, Fibonacci) | Yes, expanded |
Multi-market simultaneous view | Limited | Yes — dual/multi-market dashboard |
Watchlists | Customizable, multi-asset | Customizable, multi-asset |
Margin/cash/short-sell portfolio breakdown | Yes | Yes |
Mutual fund subscription/redemption | Yes | Limited |
Mobile app (iOS/Android) | Yes | No (desktop only) |
Algorithmic/EA execution | No | No |

EFG Hermes One
EFG Hermes One is the firm's primary retail-facing platform. It runs in web browsers on macOS and Windows and as a mobile app on iOS and Android. It provides one-click order placement across MENA and global markets and real-time quotes. It also offers customizable multi-asset watchlists, and the built-in technical analysis suite, plus account administration, portfolio overview, cash/margin/short-sell breakdowns, and direct mutual fund subscription/redemption. The 2026 app updates refined the Egypt portfolio interface and made the digital onboarding process smoother.
EFG Hermes Pro
EFG Hermes Pro is designed for more active traders who want to monitor and trade multiple markets at the same time from a desktop environment. It offers "superior dual functionality" relative to the web/mobile-first EFG Hermes One. It comes closest to a professional-grade trading terminal, but its focus remains on manual equity trading rather than automated or algorithmic execution.
What's Missing
Traders coming from a forex/CFD background will notice the absence of several features standard in that category. The broker offers no MetaTrader 4/5, no Expert Advisor or algorithmic execution layer, no demo account, and no automated bracket-order (stop-loss/take-profit) system beyond manual limit and stop orders where the exchange supports them. EFG Hermes’ platforms are designed for manual securities trading, rather than automated or leveraged CFD strategies.
EFG Hermes One Account Types
EFG Hermes' account structure is built around investor category and service level and not as the spread/commission tiers typical of forex brokers.
Account Type | Platform | Min. Deposit | Cost Structure | Best For |
Individual (Cash) | EFG Hermes One | None stated | Percentage commission, individually disclosed | Retail investors, first-time clients |
Margin | EFG Hermes One/Pro | Broker-determined | Commission + margin financing cost | Eligible investors seeking leveraged equity exposure |
Corporate/Institutional | EFG Hermes Pro + dedicated coverage | Negotiated | Negotiated, volume-based | Corporations, funds, institutional investors |
High-Net-Worth / Custody Arrangement | Dedicated relationship management | None stated | Negotiated, competitive rates | HNW individuals, family offices, small/mid funds |
Islamic (Shariah-Compliant) | Via Islamic Equity Fund | None stated | Same as underlying fund | Shariah-observant investors |
EFG Hermes Individual (Cash) Account
The standard entry point for retail clients requires no minimum deposit and no account-opening fee. Trading costs are based on brokerage commissions, with the applicable rates provided to each client individually. Our testing found this account type functional and reasonably priced. Although active, high-frequency traders can find cheaper execution-only options.
EFG Hermes Margin Account
Margin trading is offered as a different facility that require separate eligibility approval. Eligible clients can use margin financing to increase their exposure beyond their available cash balance on approved instruments.
EFG Hermes assesses margin eligibility individually. The applicable margin terms are provided by a relationship manager instead of through a standard self-service tier. Our margin eligibility query took a same-day escalation and next-business-day callback to resolve. We consider it slower than a forex broker's typically instant leverage selection. However, it was consistent with a more traditional approach to leveraged risk.
EFG Hermes Corporate/Institutional Account
Corporations, funds, and institutional investors access EFG Hermes through dedicated coverage teams. It supports negotiated, volume-based commission structures, and execution across the firm's full 75-market footprint. It allows access to its investment banking and research relationships. This is where EFG Hermes has a clear advantage: its institutional background and market expertise are stronger than what you would typically expect from a retail-focused trading platform.
EFG Hermes High-Net-Worth / Custody Arrangement
Introduced in 2026, this service targets high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and small-to-mid-sized funds who need simplified custody access across 40+ markets across MENA, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America, with no stated minimum investment, while EFG Hermes handles the KYC process centrally.
EFG Hermes and Demo Accounts
EFG Hermes does not offer a demo or virtual trading account. Prospective clients cannot test the platform with virtual funds before committing real capital. It is a real gap relative to forex/CFD brokers. New clients should budget time to learn the live interface carefully and consider starting with a small trade size.
EFG Hermes Markets & Instruments
EFG Hermes provides access to MENA and select global markets through EFG Hermes One. It additionally offers a broader custody-arrangement footprint across 40+ markets for HNW and institutional clients.
Asset Class | Coverage | Examples |
MENA Equities | Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman (direct platform access) | EGX-listed large/mid-caps, DFM, ADX, Tadawul, Kuwait Boursa names |
Global Equities | US and European exchanges (select access) | Major US and European listed names, subject to market/account terms |
GDRs | Global Depository Receipts of EGX-listed shares | Available on client authorization |
Fixed Income | USD-denominated fixed income exposure via in-house fund | Egyptian Eurobonds and related instruments |
Mutual Funds (In-House) | 5 funds directly subscribable via platform | Money Market, USD Fixed Income, Gold, Equity, Islamic Equity |
Extended Custody Access | 40+ markets via Custody Arrangement service | MENA, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, North America |
EFG Hermes provides direct access to key MENA markets, including Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman, supported by research coverage across the same regional markets. Access to US and European markets is available but remains secondary to EFG Hermes’ MENA focus, with trading terms varying by market and account type. There is no forex pair trading, no CFD instrument category, and no cryptocurrency exposure through EFG Hermes One. It is a meaningful scope difference relative to the multi-asset CFD brokers typically compared on this site. The five in-house mutual funds provide a useful diversification layer for investors who want exposure to money markets, gold, or Shariah-compliant equities without picking individual securities themselves.
EFG Hermes Execution & Speed
Live Execution Data – 60 Market/Limit Orders (2026)
We placed 60 orders on EGX-listed equities during regular trading hours through our funded Egyptian entity account.
Metric | Result |
Avg fill time — market orders | 1.4 seconds |
Avg fill time — limit orders (at touch) | 2.1 seconds |
Orders requiring manual intervention | 3 (5.0%) |
Orders rejected | 1 (1.7%) |
Platform outages/disconnections observed | 0 |
Because EFG Hermes routes orders to exchange order books as it has no market-making or dealing-desk CFD model. Execution speed here is driven by exchange order-matching times, so it should not be compared directly with the millisecond-level fill speeds typically measured at forex ECN brokers. Our results were stable and free of platform outages. This speed is appropriate for the buy-and-hold and swing-trading use cases. However, it is not designed for the sub-100ms demands of scalping or high-frequency strategies – a category of trading EFG Hermes doesn't target.
Opening an Account with EFG Hermes – Step-by-Step
Opening an EFG Hermes account involves more documentation than a typical forex CFD account because you're opening a regulated securities brokerage account. In our testing, the digital application took around 35 minutes, while activation took 3–5 business days, depending on the entity.
1. Start with EFG Hermes One
Begin through the EFG Hermes One website or mobile app and select your country of residence. Your location determines which EFG Hermes entity handles the account, such as the FRA-regulated Egyptian entity or DFSA-regulated UAE entity.
2. Complete Your Investor Profile
You'll provide basic personal, employment, and investment information. Egyptian applicants may also need to disclose positions such as company directorships, insider status, or ownership of more than 3% of an EGX-listed company. Certain questions also cover US presence for tax-reporting purposes.
3. Verify Your Identity
Upload clear images of the front and back of your government-issued ID using the app's identity-verification process. Tax-residency information is also collected during onboarding; EFG Hermes does not provide personal tax advice, so consult a qualified professional if you're unsure how to complete those fields.
4. Review the Brokerage and Custody Terms
The onboarding process includes the relevant brokerage agreement and custody arrangements for EGX-listed securities. You'll confirm the applicable custodian or bookkeeping arrangement and review the commission and fee terms, including provisions covering future changes to commissions.
5. Fund the Account and Trade
There is no minimum deposit requirement. Once approved, you can fund the account by bank transfer or another supported method. Our test bank transfer cleared within 1 business day after reaching the account.
Once funded, clients can trade through EFG Hermes One on web or mobile, while EFG Hermes Pro provides a desktop option for more active traders.
EFG Hermes Deposit & Withdrawal
EFG Hermes does not charge its own standing deposit or withdrawal fee. Though third-party bank charges may apply. For Egyptian entity accounts, foreign-currency transactions are converted using rates referenced to the Central Bank of Egypt’s published market rates.
Method | Availability | Deposit Speed | Withdrawal Speed | EFG Hermes Fee |
Bank Transfer | All entities | 1 business day (our test) | 2 business days (our test) | None stated (bank fees may apply) |
Egypt ATM Network | Egypt entity only | N/A (withdrawal-focused) | A few hours (our test) | None stated |
Branch Deposit/Withdrawal | All entities | Same day | Same day, during branch hours | None stated |
Our Live Withdrawal Test
Our EGP 15,000 bank transfer withdrawal was confirmed within 2 business days. Our EGP 5,000 ATM-network withdrawal, available only to Egypt-entity clients, was ready for collection within a few hours. We found it useful for clients who want same-day cash access without a branch visit. No fee was charged on either transaction.
A Note on Currency and Cross-Border Transfers
EFG Hermes references Central Bank of Egypt market rates rather than publishing a separate FX markup schedule. Clients funding or withdrawing in a different currency should confirm the conversion rate beforehand.
EFG Hermes Leverage / Margin Trading
EFG Hermes does not publish a standardized leverage ratio the way forex brokers do. Instead, margin trading is provided as a separate facility that requires eligibility approval, with access determined on a case-by-case basis. Clients apply to open a margin account. EFG Hermes, together with the client’s relationship manager or broker contact, sets the margin ratio and eligible instruments based on the client’s risk profile, account size, and the applicable margin rules in each market.
How This Differs from Forex Leverage
Aspect | Forex/CFD Broker (typical) | EFG Hermes |
Leverage ratio disclosure | Published (e.g., "up to 1:500") | Set case-by-case, communicated by relationship manager |
Self-service activation | Yes – select account tier at signup | No – separate application and approval process |
Eligible instruments | Broad – most forex pairs, indices, CFDs | Narrower – specific eligible equities per market |
Regulatory cap (retail, Tier-1) | 1:30 (EU/UK/AU) | Set by local exchange/regulator margin rules per market |
Negative balance protection | Standard on regulated entities | Not a standard forex-style feature; margin call and forced-liquidation mechanics apply per local market rules |
This more controlled, application-based approach to leverage provides an additional safeguard against excessive borrowing. It also means EFG Hermes structurally can't compete with forex brokers on "how much leverage can I get instantly".
Country Availability
EFG Hermes serves clients primarily across its MENA home markets, with additional reach into Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia through its custody and institutional services, and historic (though currently lapsed) access for US clients.
Direct Retail Platform Access (EFG Hermes One)
MENA – Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman (primary direct-access markets), with select global market access (US, Europe) available depending on account terms.
Extended Institutional/Custody Access
40+ markets – MENA, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America, via the Custody Arrangement and Asset Servicing Arrangement service for HNW individuals, family offices, and funds.
Not Currently Accepted
Category | Detail |
US retail clients | No active US broker-dealer registration since the January 2024 SEC deregistration of EFG Hermes USA, Inc. |
Sanctioned jurisdictions | Standard international sanctions restrictions apply, consistent with FRA/DFSA compliance requirements |
Prospective clients outside EFG Hermes' core MENA markets and outside its institutional custody-arrangement client profile should confirm directly with the firm whether retail onboarding is available in their country, since availability by residency isn't published the way it is at globally-onboarding forex brokers.
EFG Hermes Customer Support
EFG Hermes offers customer support via a dedicated contact center (short-code 16900 within Egypt, plus an international line), in-app messaging. It has physical branches across its core markets. It offers 24/5 or 24/7 Support hours windows typical of forex brokers: the contact center operates 9:30am to 3:30pm, and branches 9:30am to 3:00pm, both Cairo time.
Support Testing Results
Query | Channel | Response Time | Accuracy | Resolution |
Account opening documentation requirements | Contact Center | Connected in 4 rings | Excellent | First contact |
Margin trading eligibility criteria | Contact Center → Relationship Manager | Same-day escalation | Good | Next-business-day callback |
Brokerage commission tiers by account size | In-App Messaging | 6 hours | Good | First contact |
Withdrawal processing timelines | Contact Center | Connected in 3 rings | Excellent | First contact |
In-house mutual fund access | In-App Messaging | 5 hours | Excellent | First contact |
Our overall support experience was accurate and professional. However, the broker offers limited availability (9:30am–3:30pm Cairo time). Queries sent outside those hours generally wait until the next trading day. It can be inconvenient for clients in other time zones. EFG Hermes does not offer comparable evening or weekend live-chat coverage.
EFG Hermes Education & Research
Research is one of EFG Hermes' institutional strengths. EFG Hermes Intelligence, the firm's research division, is widely recognized as one of the leading MENA equity research houses. It also offers direct local market research across the firm's core markets. It holds a track record of industry awards, including Best Broker in Egypt, Kuwait, and Oman from EMEA Finance and Global Investor/ISF in past award cycles.
What's Available
Clients get access to EFG Hermes' technical analysis toolkit directly within the trading platform. additionally, it offers broader research output, market commentary, company and sector coverage, and macro analysis. These features have been distributed through the Intelligence service to eligible clients. This is quite different from the video tutorials and webinar-based education commonly offered by retail forex brokers. EFG Hermes' research is closer to institutional-style market research rather than beginner-focused trading education.
What's Missing for Beginners
There is no structured beginner-level trading course, no webinar calendar, and no dedicated "learn to trade" academy comparable to Admirals or Tickmill. Investors newer to markets should not expect EFG Hermes to teach the basics of order types, risk management, or technical analysis from scratch. The platform is designed for investors who already have a basic understanding of the markets. It provides in-depth research rather than introductory trading lessons.
EFG Hermes Mobile Trading
EFG Hermes One is available as a free mobile app on iOS and Android, described by the firm as "One App, Trade the world." It supports full order placement, portfolio viewing (2026's update restored the Egypt cash/margin/short-sell layout), watchlist management, charting, and direct fund subscription/redemption. Recent updates focused on digital onboarding, overnight order handling, and wallet/funding reliability. This indicates active platform investment.
The mobile app does not offer algorithmic trading, EA support, or a desktop-equivalent multi-market view (that remains EFG Hermes Pro's domain). The mobile app is practical and reasonably modern for the long-term, research-driven equity investing EFG Hermes targets. Although it lacks the extensive features found in dedicated forex and CFD trading apps.
EFG Hermes Overnight Funding / Margin Financing Rates
EFG Hermes doesn't offer leveraged forex or CFD positions subject to daily rollover financing. Therefore, it does not operate an overnight swap system in the forex-broker sense. The closest equivalent cost is margin financing, which is the interest-like charge applied to the borrowed amount when a margin position is held over time.
Cost Type | EFG Hermes (Margin Account) | Typical Forex Broker (Overnight Swap) |
Basis | Margin financing rate on borrowed balance | Per-lot swap rate on open position |
Disclosure | Set case-by-case per margin agreement | Published per instrument, updated regularly |
Applies to | Eligible margin account holders only | All leveraged positions held past rollover |
Islamic alternative | Islamic Equity Fund (Shariah-compliant, no leverage) | Swap-free/Islamic account option |
The broker sets margin financing terms individually rather than published as a standard rate table. Therefore, we can't present a live-tested benchmark comparable to the swap-rate tables typical of forex reviews. Investors using margin should confirm the applicable financing rate with their relationship manager before taking a leveraged position.
EFG Hermes VPS Hosting & Algorithmic Trading
EFG Hermes does not offer VPS hosting or algorithmic/Expert Advisor trading infrastructure. This reflects its core model: EFG Hermes One and Pro are designed for manual securities investing rather than automated strategy execution. Traders who need EA support, backtesting, or low-latency VPS infrastructure should look to dedicated forex/CFD brokers with MetaTrader support instead. This is a structural product gap, not a service-quality gap. EFG Hermes simply hasn't built, and doesn't market itself as building, an algorithmic trading environment.
Not Suitable For
- Traders looking for a forex or CFD trading experience, as EFG Hermes offers neither pip-based forex pairs nor a standardized leveraged CFD product
- Scalpers or high-frequency traders, as exchange-routed execution is not built for sub-100ms strategies
- Algorithmic traders needing EA support, backtesting, or VPS infrastructure, as none of this is offered
- Traders who want to test a platform risk-free first, as there is no demo account
- US-based retail investors, as EFG Hermes no longer has an active SEC registration or US retail offering.
- Traders who need weekend or evening support, as EFG Hermes' support hours are limited to the local trading day
- Beginners looking for structured trading education, as EFG Hermes focuses more on institutional-style research than beginner-friendly learning resources.
Choose EFG Hermes If… / Don't Choose If…
Choose EFG Hermes If:
- You want direct, well-researched exposure to Egyptian, UAE, Saudi, Kuwaiti, or Omani equities from a firm with strong local expertise across MENA
- You value institutional research quality (EFG Hermes Intelligence) over a beginner-education-driven platform
- You want a zero-minimum-deposit entry point into a full-service regional securities broker
- You are a high-net-worth individual, family office, or small/mid-sized fund who wants consolidated custody access across 40+ markets without a minimum investment
- You want access to Shariah-compliant equity and other in-house mutual fund options directly through your trading platform
- You value CSD-based securities custody segregation and are comfortable with a relationship-manager-driven margin process rather than instant self-service leverage
Don't Choose EFG Hermes If:
- You specifically want forex pairs, CFDs, or a published leverage ratio, as none of these are part of EFG Hermes' product line
- You want the lowest possible flat commission on Egyptian equities specifically, as execution-only competitors like Thndr are built around materially lower self-directed retail pricing
- You want instant, self-service account activation, as EFG Hermes' KYC-intensive process took multiple business days in our testing
- You are based in the United States, given the lapsed SEC registration
- You need 24/5 or 24/7 support coverage, as EFG Hermes' support hours are limited to the local trading day
- You want to test the platform in a demo environment before committing capital
EFG Hermes vs. Competitors
EFG Hermes' real competitive set is regional securities brokers, not the multi-asset CFD brokers typically featured on this site. The table below places it alongside CI Capital, Beltone Securities, Mubasher Trade, and Thndr – the names Egyptian and MENA investors most often compare it against. Competitor figures come from public fee schedules and regulatory filings, not our live testing, which was limited to EFG Hermes. They should therefore be viewed as indicative rather than directly comparable.
Broker | Regulation | Min Deposit | Commission Model | Platform | Demo Account | Margin Trading |
EFG Hermes | FRA (Egypt), DFSA (UAE) | None stated | Individually disclosed, ~0.35–0.45% per side (our testing) | EFG Hermes One (web/mobile), EFG Hermes Pro (desktop) | No | Eligibility-gated, relationship-manager approval |
CI Capital | FRA (Egypt) | Traditional broker minimums, typically EGP 10,000+ | Percentage of trade value, negotiated by account size | Web/mobile trading app | No | Available to eligible clients |
Beltone Securities | FRA (Egypt) | Traditional broker minimums | Percentage of trade value, negotiated | Web/mobile trading app | No | Available to eligible clients |
Mubasher Trade | CBB (Bahrain), FRA (Egypt, futures) | Varies by market | Percentage of trade value, multi-market | Mubasher web/mobile terminal | No | Available on select markets |
Thndr | FRA (Egypt), FSRA ADGM (US/UAE) | None stated | Marketed as low/zero-commission on EGX; fees apply on other markets | Thndr mobile app | Yes — practice simulator | Not offered (cash accounts only) |
Where EFG Hermes leads: Institutional experience and strong research capabilities are EFG Hermes’ main differentiators. EFG Hermes Intelligence's on-the-ground MENA research, its investment-banking relationships, and its 40+ market custody-arrangement service for HNW and institutional clients aren't matched by any competitor above. Its direct access on five MENA markets plus select global names, versus the largely single-market focus of CI Capital, Beltone, and Thndr.
Where EFG Hermes trails: Thndr's zero-minimum, low-commission, mobile-first model is simpler and cheaper for small, self-directed trades. Its practice simulator gives new investors a risk-free on-ramp EFG Hermes doesn't offer. CI Capital and Beltone compete on a similar full-service model. The choice typically comes down to negotiated commission rates and sector research coverage rather than a structural difference. Mubasher Trade's Bahrain base gives it a different regional entity structure that may suit GCC-resident investors differently.
Conclusion
EFG Hermes is a reliable, 40-year-old MENA investment bank and securities broker. It is publicly listed, regulated by Egypt's FRA and the UAE's DFSA. It is backed by one of the region's most respected equity research divisions. Our live testing found a functional, actively maintained platform, stable exchange execution, professional support, and withdrawal processing that met stated timelines. It offers zero-minimum-deposit requirement that makes entry unusually accessible for a full-service broker of its size.
EFG Hermes is not a forex or CFD broker, and evaluating it as one leads to the wrong conclusion. Therefore, potential client needs to adopt this essential fact. There is no MT4/MT5, no pip spread, no standardized leverage ratio, and no 24-hour support window. it is essential to know that EFG Hermes doesn’t fall short of a forex-broker standard, but it was never built to be one. Commission disclosure is less transparent upfront than a forex broker's published spread table. Margin trading requires relationship-manager approval, and account activation takes multiple business days rather than hours.
EFG Hermes earns its BP Score™ of 71/100 as a credible, well-researched way to access MENA equity markets directly. It is best suited to investors who specifically want that regional exposure and are comfortable with a relationship-driven brokerage model. For traders whose priority is forex or CFD trading in any form, this review should function as a clear signal to look elsewhere in our broker comparison database. This is not because EFG Hermes is unsafe or poorly run, but because it is answering a fundamentally different question.

trading Costs
6/10Reasonable but not category-leading commission rates versus regional peers; individually disclosed rather than published, which reduces upfront transparency.
platforms & Tools
7/10EFG Hermes One and Pro are functional, actively updated proprietary platforms with solid technical analysis tools; no demo account and no algorithmic execution layer.

asset Coverage
7/10Strong, credible MENA equity and fund coverage; no forex, CFD, or crypto instruments, and global market access is secondary to the regional core.
customer Support
