USD/JPY Firms as Warsh Signals Fed Isn't Done on Inflation
USD/JPY caught a bid Friday after Kevin Warsh, in his first major test as Fed Chair, told markets the central bank still has unfinished business on inflation. Bond traders took the comment at face value, and Treasury yields held firm, giving the dollar renewed support against the yen.
The credibility factor matters here. A chair whose words move rates without volatility spikes reduces policy uncertainty, and that stability has historically favored carry-oriented pairs like USD/JPY. With the Bank of Japan still cautious on tightening, the yield gap continues to underpin dollar strength.
Traders will watch whether Warsh's tone gets reinforced or walked back in coming sessions, as any shift in rate-cut expectations could quickly reprice USD/JPY.
