USD/JPY: Yen Weakness Persists as Rate Divergence Widens

The yen remains the weaker side of the USD/JPY equation as the Fed's hawkish repositioning under Warsh widens the perceived rate gap with the Bank of Japan. Unlike broader risk-sensitive currencies, the yen's traditional safe-haven appeal has done little to offset dollar-driven strength this week.

This divergence trade has been the dominant theme across markets, also weighing on gold and crude as capital rotates toward the dollar. For USD/JPY specifically, it means the pair is less reactive to global risk swings and more anchored to incoming U.S. rate expectations.

Until Japanese officials signal discomfort with yen weakness or intervene verbally, USD/JPY appears likely to stay supported on pullbacks, with the broader macro backdrop still favoring dollar bulls into the new week.
